Qualche consiglio?

It's completely normal to have concerns and doubts when considering a new career opportunity, especially if it involves transitioning to a different setting or population. Here are a few things to consider as you navigate your decision-making process:

Transferable Skills: Although you haven't worked in a hospital setting, your experience in non-profit organizations doing case management with young and older adults can provide valuable transferable skills. Skills such as assessment, care coordination, advocacy, and counseling can be relevant in a medical social work role. Highlight these skills and emphasize how they can contribute to your effectiveness in working with patients in a hospital setting.

Learning and Adaptability: Remember that every new job involves a learning curve, and employers are aware of that. While you may not have direct experience in a hospital, your willingness to learn, adapt, and acquire new knowledge and skills is crucial. Highlight your ability to quickly grasp new concepts, your eagerness to expand your professional expertise, and your commitment to ongoing professional development.

Training and Support: Ask about the training and support that would be provided in the new role. Many healthcare organizations offer orientation programs, mentoring, and ongoing professional development opportunities to help employees transition smoothly into a new setting. Knowing that there will be support available can alleviate some of your concerns.

Self-Assessment: Reflect on your own strengths and areas for growth. Consider how your existing skills and experiences can complement the requirements of a medical social work role. Recognize that being open to learning, being empathetic, and having strong interpersonal skills are essential qualities for a social worker, regardless of the setting.

Networking and Informational Interviews: Reach out to professionals who are already working in medical social work or hospital settings. Engage in informational interviews to gain insights into their experiences, the challenges they face, and the skills they find most valuable. This can provide you with a better understanding of the field and help you make an informed decision.

Ultimately, only you can determine if this opportunity aligns with your long-term goals and if you are willing to embrace the challenges and opportunities it presents. Trust in your abilities and continue to explore and learn about the field to make an informed decision. Good luck with your career journey!

A triennial degree in social services, which can be obtained at one of Italy's accredited universities, is required to become an assistant social medic in that country. The students acquire the skills necessary to intervene on an individual, familial, and social level, particularly in the healthcare environment, during their baccalaureate program.

After completing the degree program, students must pass the two-session, annual State Exam for Social Assistant. The examination is divided into two written tests and one oral test.

Once the Stato exam has been passed, you must register for the Social Assistance List held by the National Council of Social Workers (CNOAS).
