Hi everyone,
I’m a recent nursing graduate and currently trying to decide between two job offers: one in the ICU and the other in an oncology unit. Both specialties really interest me for different reasons, and I would love to hear from experienced nurses in either (or both) fields.
What are the biggest challenges and rewards you’ve faced in ICU vs. oncology nursing? How do the emotional demands compare? And from a career development standpoint, which path offers more opportunities to grow or specialize further?
Any insights or personal experiences you can share would really help me make an informed decision. Thanks so much in advance!

You should choose ICU if:
You like action, technique, and quick reflexes
You aim for a role in emergency medicine, resuscitation, or a highly specialized NP
You are good under pressure and want to learn quickly and gain skills
You should choose Oncology if:
You like building relationships and long-term companionship
You are interested in palliative care, patient education, or research nursing
You have deep empathy and are persistent in monitoring the disease process solitaire bliss
